Shepherds Center

Shepherds Center is a wonderful resource for Charlotte’s Senior population.  They offer many activities, support services and volunteer opportunities for active seniors. Some of the activities offered:

  • Educational opportunities such as Adventures in Learning and computer classes
  • Travel Program – taking trips to see plays, concerts and other informative or interesting adventures.
  • Counselors to provide assistance with tax or insurance and Medicare questions
  • Volunteer opportunities for active seniors such as meal delivery services or Caring call phone calls to shut ins.

Who Arc is and what they do:

  • The Arc of Mecklenburg County is a well established network that connects people and families with developmental disabilities to community resources.
  • The Arc of Mecklenburg County creates awareness and educate the community about developmental disabilities and associated intellectual impairments.
  • The Arc of Mecklenburg County lobbies local, state, and national legislators to ensure the needs of people with developmental disabilities are met (i.e. education, housing, services, and funding).
  • The Arc of Mecklenburg County provides programming to educate and prepare people with disabilities for greater independence and social understanding.
  • The Arc of Mecklenburg County encourages empowerment and self-advocacy among individuals with developmental disabilities.
  • The Arc of Mecklenburg County promotes inclusion and community involvement to develop opportunities to build relationships within the community.

The Mecklenburg Community Resource Connections for Aging and Disabilities is a coordinated information, assistance and referral system for all older adults, people with disabilities, and their formal and informal caregivers.

Participating providers use standardized intake, referral, follow-up, and evaluation procedures to assure high-quality services.

The mission of the CRC is to be a consumer-centered network providing easy access to aging and disability information and services in Mecklenburg County. Its vision is service access without confusion for all consumers.

Centralina Area Agency on Aging


Centralina Area Agency on Aging strives to support and enhance the capacity of service and advocacy systems to promote independence, preserve dignity and advocate for the rights of older and disabled adults and their families.

Who We Serve

Centralina Area Agency on Aging is located in Charlotte , North Carolina. We serve the 9 county region which includes Anson, Cabarrus, Gaston, Iredell, Lincoln, Mecklenburg, Rowan, Stanly & Union counties.

History of AAA in North Carolina
With the enactment of the Older Americans Act in 1965, Area Agencies on Aging were mandated in every state. In 1971, Governor Scott decided that the Area Agency on Aging would be a part of the local regional organization, Council of Governments. Centralina Area Agency on Aging is part of Centralina Council of Governments.
